Researcher

I have been involved in survey and excavation projects in Iran, Georgia, Oman, Lebanon, Kuwait, Syria and Spain

I am a landscape archaeologist whose research interests include landscapes of territorial empires (1st millennium BC – 1st millennium AD), landscapes of mobile pastoral communities, and GIS and remote sensing applications in archaeology. I recently completed my ERC funded PhD at Durham University as part of the Persia and its Neighbours Project. This research explored settlement and land use patterns of urban, rural and mobile pastoral communities on the Gorgan Plain of north east Iran between the Iron Age and the Islamic period. I held a position as a post-doctoral research associate on the same project, and continue to publish on research stemming from it. I have been involved in survey and excavation projects in Iran, Georgia, Oman, Lebanon, Kuwait, Syria and Spain, and have worked in commercial archaeology in Australia.
